Ryanair has announced the cancellation of several flights scheduled for tomorrow due to planned strikes at Italian airports.

Industrial action is set to affect major hubs across the European hotspot, including Bologna, Milan, Rome, and Venice.

The strike will involve ground security personnel and baggage handlers, potentially causing significant disruptions to airport operations. Travellers are likely to face delays and cancellations during this period.

The strike is scheduled to last 24 hours, beginning at 11.59pm yesterday (September 23) and ending at 11.59pm today (September 24).

Passengers are advised to check their flight status before travelling.

Ryanair said: “Due to a ground handling strike affecting Venice Marco Polo (VCE), Olbia (OLB), Milan Malpensa (MXP), and Bologna (BLQ) airports on Tues 24 Sept, we have been forced to cancel a small number of flights to/from these airports and make schedule changes to a small number of others.

“Passengers affected by these cancellations/schedule changes have been notified of their options via email.

“Additionally, we are monitoring potential delays for flights to/from the affected airports on Tues 24 Sept as a result of the strike.

“Passengers affected by delays will be notified via the Ryanair app.

“We ask all passengers due to travel to/from Venice Marco Polo (VCE), Olbia (OLB), Milan Malpensa (MXP), Bologna (BLQ) airports on Tues 24 Sept to keep an eye on the Ryanair app for the latest updates on your flight.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this strike, which is outside of our control.”

EasyJet has also responded to upcoming industrial action in Italy, sharing details on how customers can check their flight details.

The airline will contact affected customers directly via SMS and email using details provided at booking.

Passengers on cancelled flights are eligible for a refund or can transfer to a new flight free of charge.

EasyJet explained: “We’ve been made aware of local ground handling and security strikes in Italy on Tuesday 24th September affecting flights flying in and out of Venice, Olbia, Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate and Bologna.

“We expect that there may be delays and some disruption due to the industrial action, so we advise all customers to continue to check the status of their flight here on Flight Tracker before travelling to the airport.

“Although this is outside of our control, we wish to reassure you that we are doing all we can to minimise any disruption to our flights that may occur as a result of the strike action.”
