British Airways has announced the cancellation of all its summer 2025 flights from Southampton Airport in a blow to holidaymakers.

The airline stated it was “suspending” its summer operations from the hub but did not provide a reason for the decision.

The affected routes, operated by BA City Flyer, include weekend flights to Bergerac, Dublin, Faro, Malaga and Majorca.

Customers impacted by the cancellations will be contacted with options including rebooking on alternative flights with British Airways or another airline or receiving a full refund.

A spokesperson from Southampton Airport expressed disappointment over the route removals, stating: “Clearly it’s disappointing when any route is removed.”

However, the airport remains proactive, with the spokesperson adding: “We are in constant dialogue with airlines regarding the introduction of new services and that includes backfilling the routes withdrawn by British Airways.”

TheY highlighted the airport’s efforts to maintain its regional operations and mitigate the impact of British Airways’ decision.

The cancellations come nearly a year after Southampton Airport unveiled its extended runway.

At the time, the airport emphasised that the longer runway was “absolutely critical” to its viability as a regional airport and its ability to handle a wider variety of aircraft.

The extended runway was intended to boost the airport’s capacity and attract more airlines, making the loss of British Airways’ summer routes particularly significant.

British Airways recently announced the launch of a new route from London Heathrow to Tbilisi, Georgia, set to commence in 2025.

The service will operate four times per week starting on March 30, offering travellers a direct link between the two capital cities.

Passengers from eight UK airports, including Edinburgh, Belfast, Manchester, and Newcastle, will be able to connect seamlessly to Tbilisi via Heathrow on a single ticket.

The flight timings have been optimised to facilitate connections to other services from Heathrow, particularly to New York and European destinations not directly served from Georgia, such as Madrid and Barcelona.
