While washing our hair is something we all do, an expert has claimed not all of us are getting the most out of this essential task.

Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner is one thing, but knowing how to use them correctly is vital if you want to achieve sensational strands.

Celebrity hairstylist Richard Ward spoke exclusively to GB News about the washing technique that promotes hair growth.

He explained that you can stimulate blood flow by massaging your scalp with the tips of your fingers when applying shampoo.

The expert said: “You can actually do it quite hard – not vigorously – but just massage your head, especially when you have got conditioner on as well.

“The whole point is if you are stimulating the blood flow, you are encouraging hair growth.”

After using shampoo and conditioner, Richard urged hair care enthusiasts to ensure they rinse out their products thoroughly, as not doing so can affect hair growth.

Providing another top tip, the expert advised simply washing “around your hairline” when you don’t want to go through your whole hair-washing routine.

The hairdresser explained: “The grease is the worst part and it is always around the hairline – that is the bit that people see when they look at you.

“Sometimes I say, even if you do not want to wash your hair every day, wash around your hairline as that gets a bit dirty and greasy.

“Put your head over the sink and then blow dry because that is what people see – the rest does not matter so much.”

Finally, the expert advised buying the best shampoo your budget can afford because it really “does make a difference”.

Richard explained: “With shampoo, you absolutely get what you pay for. So if you are just going to have a £1.99 shampoo, it can also be like paint stripper.”

In other hair news, a doctor named the best product to ‘freshen up your hair’ without washing – although they did provide a warning.

The expert said: “You can freshen up your hair using dry shampoo, although this should be used sparingly as too much can cause buildup and clog the hair follicles.”
