According to a DIY expert, those looking to sell should not underestimate the importance of a pristine front door and the right paint colours.

Inside the house, the expert recommended focusing on improving two rooms.

Kesha said: “Updating kitchens and bathrooms adds the most value. Simple fixes like replacing outdated fixtures, repainting walls in neutral colours and upgrading countertops can add tens of thousands of pounds to the overall house price.”

The expert continued: “Sustainability is also becoming a big selling point. Adding features like solar panels, underfloor heating or a well-insulated attic not only reduces energy bills but also attracts eco-conscious buyers.

“Homeowners need to be aware that there are going to be stricter regulations around energy efficiency, so it’s always wise to stay ahead of these changes to avoid any surprises during the selling process.” While this improvement can cost more to do, it can provide a return when selling the home.

“Lastly, buyers and sellers often overlook the importance of getting a thorough survey done,” the expert stated.

“Skipping this step can lead to nasty surprises, like discovering structural issues after the deal is done.”
