Myles Lewis-Skelly has revealed he mistook an Uber Eats driver for Tomas Tuchel before being included in his first international trip with England.
In the latest episode of England Generations, accompanied by Dan Burn and Arsenal team-mate Declan Rice, the 18-year-old disclosed the nervous wait for a call-up in the national team following his illustrious season so far.
The youngster emerged as a strong starter for Mikel Arteta, who experienced several players’ injuries throughout this campaign.
Despite numerous setbacks in the squad, Lewis-Skelly not only filled the left back spot but also impressed with his quality and calm play at a young age.
Waiting for a highly anticipated call-up, the Gunners’ wonderkid answered a call from a number he did not recognise, thinking he would speak to Tuchel – but instead, he found out he got a ring from an Uber Eats driver.
‘I put on my good voice,’ Lewis-Skelly revealed. ‘I’m getting ready and then the person that speaks says “we have your food, it’s outside”.

The German specialists awarded Skelly with a potential debut for England following his rapid rise in Arsenal’s squad
‘It was Uber Eats for my mum.’
A laughing Rice was quick to add: ‘You were hoping it was going to be a call-up’, followed by a loud chortle from Burn.
Lewis-Skelly’s rapid rise saw him from sitting on the Arsenal bench to having a realistic opportunity to be included in England’s starting lineup against Latvia and Albania.
Just a week ago, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was full of praise for the 18-year-old youngster, highlighting that it is no wonder Tuchel called him up.
He said: ‘We were all really, really happy because it’s a really nice story and a story that gives a lot of hope to a lot of young players and that in six or seven months your career can change dramatically, drastically for the good. It’s something for people to be inspired.’
‘I think it hasn’t happened because he was lucky. I think he pushed for every chance to happen and the way he’s done it. So, yeah, good example.’
Lewis-Skelly made 14 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring his debut goal against Manchester City back in February.
Furthermore, he added 12 more games in the FA Cup, Carabao cup and the Champions League.
His Arsenal team-mate and youngster Ethan Nwaneri, 17, was named in the England Under 21 squad. He, too, has ascended rapidly at the same time as Lewis-Skelly.
