Ex-Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias has been banned from Major League Baseball for around half the season, or 81 games, as a result of his domestic violence incident from 2023.
The incident took place at a Major League Soccer game between Inter Miami and Los Angeles FC, with the Hollywood crowd getting their first look at living-legend Lionel Messi stateside.
Among the A-listers at BMO Stadium were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as they sat in a luxury box with team founders.
The punishment to Urias was confirmed by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, saying Urias violated the league’s domestic violence policy.
Urias and partner Daisy Perez, who have been together since 2021, got into a fight outside the stadium after the game. Harry and Meghan did not witness the incident, but were listed alongside Urias on the game’s celebrity attendees.
Other celebrities at the game included Selena Gomez, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Holland, and LeBron James.

Pitcher Julio Urias has been banned from Major League Baseball for around half the season
His ban comes from a 2023 domestic violence incident after an MLS game in Los Angeles
Urias was arrested in September 2023 for domestic violence and was placed on administrative leave by MLB shortly thereafter. He has not played in a game since the incident.
Last year, Urias pled no-contest brought against him by the city of Los Angeles as part of a plea deal that dropped the case.
Part of Major League Baseball’s evidence against Urias was video of the incident taken by a witness.
‘The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball has completed its investigation into allegations that free agent pitcher Julio Urias violated Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy,’ Manfred said in a statement.
‘Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Urias violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate.’
Urias is able to be reinstated from MLB’s restricted list on July 17. He had been with the Dodgers since 2016 and was on the 2020 World Series-winning team.
