While diets – such as time-restricted eating – may naturally mean mealtimes are skipped, a doctor told GB News why this is not always beneficial.

Slimmers have been warned against skipping breakfast as it could make weight loss and fat-burning more difficult.

This is according to wellness expert at Daily Glow LLC Dr Nicole Maholy who shared advice focusing on how to burn fat.

She said: “My best advice for weight loss and fat burning include strategies that stabilise blood sugar and minimise insulin release.

“High blood sugar and insulin levels encourage fat storage rather than fat burning, so it’s imperative to avoid blood sugar spikes that trigger insulin release.”

The expert suggested there are a few simple ways to do this, including eating plenty of protein and cutting back on late-night eating.

One meal she said dieters should not skip is breakfast, as doing so can be detrimental to blood sugar levels and, ultimately, make it more difficult to slim down.

She added: “I’d love to encourage eating a protein-rich breakfast. Skipping breakfast is associated with worse blood sugar regulation throughout the day.

“Studies show skipping breakfast is associated with higher glucose levels and impaired insulin response after lunch.

“This type of glucose and insulin response would put you back into fat storage mode, making weight loss more difficult.”

Dr Maholy suggested tucking into a breakfast high in protein as this macronutrient is known to help people feel full and less likely to reach for unhealthy snacks before lunch.

She added: “Eating a protein-packed breakfast on the other hand sets the stage for better blood sugar regulation throughout the day, improving metabolism and fat-burning.”
