Baxter’s Food Group has issued a recall for its Sliced Gherkins Crunchy & Sweet product due to the presence of undeclared mustard.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced that the product poses a potential health risk for consumers with mustard allergies.

According to Cleveland Clinic, mustard allergies can cause “abdominal pain, dizziness, swollen lips or face and vomiting”.

The FSA has classified this as an Allergy Alert, which is issued when there is a specific food allergy risk due to missing or incorrect labelling.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

Consumers are urged not to eat the product if they have a mustard allergy.

The FSA added: “Dispose of the product and contact the customer care team on 0800 389 8389 and CCUK@baxters.com for a replacement.”

Sainsbury’s said: “No other products are affected by this recall. Baxters would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Product recalls occur when customers are asked to return potentially unsafe items, while withdrawals involve removing products from shelves.

The FSA issues product recall information notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

Cereal sold in Aldi and Sainsbury’s has also been recalled for posing ‘a choking hazard’.
