Britons have been warned of jewellery sold on Amazon that poses a serious chemical safety risk.

Consumers have been told not to stop using the three affected pieces of jewellery.

The items are unsafe as they contain cadmium, which can cause various health problems.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) warned: “The listing has been removed by the online marketplace (Amazon). We recommend owners stop using the product immediately. Contact the distributor you purchased from to request redress.”

Product Description: Gold and silver jewellery sold with a ‘FASHION JEWELRY’ backing card. Earrings are gold-coloured dragons, or gold-coloured bows with clear stones. The necklace is a silver-coloured crescent moon with a red mushroom design.

The OPSS added: “The products present a serious chemical risk. The necklace contains 50.6% cadmium, which is 5,060 times the maximum permissible limit.

“The earrings contain 33.5% cadmium (bows), and 80.8% cadmium (dragons) – 3350 and 8080 times the maximum permissible limit respectively.

“Cadmium is harmful to human health as it accumulates in the body, can damage organs and may cause cancer.

“The product does not meet the requirements of the REACH Enforcement Regulations 2008.”
