Selling property is stressful, but a series of home improvements could help you secure the highest offer.
What you do in your outdoor space could be particularly beneficial, according to one property expert.
A well-kept garden can add around 20 per cent to the value of your home, expert at Harbour Lifestyle, Andrew White, claimed.
The average UK house costs £367,994, according to new Rightmove data, so a 20 per cent increase could equate to around £73,000.
While big garden renovations are sure to add value, simpler tweaks – like weeding and removing clutter – could be enough to increase the offers on your home, according to the expert.
Andrew said: “Prospective buyers seek a versatile, clean and modern outdoor space that is ready for them to add their own style to when searching for their new home.
“Therefore, ensuring your garden is well-maintained, weed-free and clutter-free is essential to allow viewers to envision their dream garden within the space.
“Hide children’s toys in stylish storage boxes, and address any visible signs of wear and tear to avoid distraction from the space itself.
“Incorporate sleek, contemporary outdoor furniture, like a modern sofa set, to create inviting social areas that viewers could imagine themselves enjoying.”
Making your garden appear as large as possible will also work wonder – “space is a significant contributing factor when home-hunting”.
You can do this by creating different zones in your garden or by simply putting away anything that does not need to be out.
If you’re looking for outdoor furniture, a pergola could be your best bet, the expert added.
He said: “Surprisingly, placing a pergola into your outdoor space can add up to five per cent to the value of your home.”
