Asda is the latest supermarket to recall a food product. It has been discovered that Asda Chicken Dinner with a specific best before date is unsafe for some customers to eat.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned that the product poses a “possible health risk” to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or egg and/or barley (gluten).

The FSA stated: “This product contains milk, egg and barley (gluten) making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or egg and/or barley (gluten).
“Asda is recalling the above product from customers. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
Asda’s customer notice read: “Some packs of Asda Chicken Dinners may contain Beef Dinners, which include additional allergens milk, eggs and barley.
“If you have purchased Asda Chicken Dinner date coded 05/09/2025, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and will ensure this doesn’t happen again.
“If you would like any further information, please contact 0800 952 0101.”
The FSA echoed the advice: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or egg and/or barley (gluten), do not eat it.”
The FSA explained why allergy alerts are given. Britons were told: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.
“Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
