Roman Kemp made a thinly veiled jibe towards Nigel Farage after his acceptance speech for winning the Best News Presenter award two years in a row.

Farage – who joined GB News back in 2021 but has since stepped down to run for Reform UK in the upcoming General Election – declared that the People’s Channel was “here to stay” during him speech.

After Kemp revealed Farage had won, he walked onto the stage and was welcomed with jeers from the crowd, but that didn’t stop him from excitedly accepting the award.

He told the audience: “Thank you! It’s like a crowd at a wrestling event really! I notice much less hostility than we had last year! And just think about it, GB News Breakfast has won, the Camilla Tominey interview with Alastair Stewart won and I have won for a second year in a row for News Presenter of the Year.

“What that says to you is that GB News is here to stay as a mainstream broadcaster in this country and thank goodness for that! Well, know those that boo clearly don’t like competition! A massive thank you to our listeners and our viewers.

“But I also want to say a big shout out because I did do a bit of work for another TV company because I did spend a bit of time on I’m A Celebrity…. Get Me Out of Here!

“Fred Sirieix I have seen up here winning prizes, Fred and I will never agree but we worked well together in the camp. Many other campmates here, I’m A Celebrity, great show, I loved doing it!

“Sadly, my TV career has been somewhat curtailed as I have another mission coming up on July 4. But thank you, everybody, you will be seeing more of me.”

During the lengthy speech, Farage was cut off by the music and hinted that he needed to move off the stage and let Kemp continue the award show – something the radio host took note of.

As he walked off the stage, Kemp joking ushered him off and teased: “I do love it when the music kicks in! I think we got away with it!” before promptly moving on to the next category.

Elsewhere in the award show, Camilla Tominey won an award for her emotional interview with Alastair Stewart and his heartbreaking dementia diagnosis.

She beamed in her speech: “Thank you so much to everybody in the public who voted, thank you so much to the judges. As everyone here knows, the best stories to tell are the ones involving human interest and people’s very personal tales.

“Everyone in my immediate production team, so that’s Joe Cowell, Keith Bays, Dominic Weaver and Tim Smith.

“And thank you so much and hope it raised awareness, and thank you to Al – he’s a broadcasting legend who shared something very personal with us so thank you.”

GB News’ Breakfast show with Eamonn Holmes, Isabel Webster, Stephen Dixon and Ellie Costello also took home a TRIC award and left Dixon to cheer: “I want to say on behalf of all of us, we are so thrilled to have won this for the second year running.

“So pleased for everyone who voted for us, thank you very much indeed.”

Webster added: “Speaking for the girls as well, I just wanted to say thank you to all our team. We’re very small, we work our socks off and we really think we’re doing something right because the figures seem to (grow) and we thank everybody who voted for us today.”
