Princess Kate’s outing is hanging in the balance as the Royal Family prepares for an appearance.

The Princess of Wales usually presents the trophy to the winners of the Wimbledon men’s singles and women’s singles events every summer.

In March, Kate announced that she had begun a course of preventative chemotherapy following her abdominal surgery two months before.

The princess briefly returned to the public eye on June 15 when she attended Trooping the Colour alongside her children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

Kensington Palace was keen to stress the princess would not be returning to official duties just yet, but she is expected to undertake two or three engagements this summer.

The royal’s iconic appearance at Wimbledon, which begins today, is still hanging in the balance.

All England Club chair Debbie Jevans told the Telegraph that the Princess of Wales will be given “as much flexibility as possible” regarding her possible attendance.

The Princess of Wales has been patron of the All England Club since 2016 and has watched many matches from the Royal Box.

Last year, the Prince and Princess of Wales were joined at Wimbledon by Prince George and Princess Charlotte for the compelling men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

Kate admitted that the decision to not bring Prince Louis to Wimbledon left the young royal “very upset”.

The princess was on the brink of tears just moments before awarding the trophy to Markéta Vondrousova at the women’s singles final.

Czech Republic’s Vondrousova defeated Ons Jabeur in what was her first Wimbledon title.

Jabeur, the bookies’ favourite ahead of the contest, was left devastated by the loss and burst into tears following the final.

The Tunisian tennis star also suffered defeat in the women’s singles final at Wimbledon in 2022.

Other members of the Royal Family will almost certainly attend Wimbledon in 2024, including the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
