Clothing choices significantly impact how women in their 50s feel and are perceived, and this extends to the quality of their underwear.
Wearing the correct bra size is crucial for appearance because it significantly changes the silhouette.
Opting for a saggy fit that lacks all the right features can have an ageing effect on the décolleté, a style influencer has warned.
Deirdre, from ’50 & Fabulous with My Friend Deirdre’ offered her mature women the best advice on how to choose the right bra.

“When you buy a bra, see if you can get yourself fitted,” Deirdre told viewers.
“Even if you buy them online, try them on when they get to you, with a very critical eye,” she said.
“Make sure there’s no spillage, that they fit properly, and that they perk you up. It tends to be ageing if you’ve got a saggy bra.”
She advised paying attention to the gap at the top of the cup, as these features often need adjustments.
“If there’s a gap at the top of the bra, try tightening the bra straps or even go down a cup size,” Deirdre advised.
A crucial sign of an ill-fitting bra is the band; if it feels too loose, too tight, or rides up the back, it is likely the wrong size.
To ensure a proper fit, always wear a new bra on the loosest hook available.
This allows for more adjustments as the band stretches over time with wear and washing.
For mature women, experts typically advise looking for bras that can support and counteract changes in breast tissue over time.
Experts at DeBra’s, shared: “This could include wider straps, reinforced underwire, or side panels that provide additional lift and shape.”

They note that bras made from “soft, breathable fabrics such as cotton or microfiber” are preferred for their comfort and ease of wear.
Additionally, they recommend adjustable features to accommodate weight and body shape fluctuations.
They went on: “Many mature women prefer bras with full-coverage cups that provide ample support and modesty.
“These styles help minimise spillage and offer a smooth silhouette under clothing, enhancing comfort and confidence.”
