Weight loss takes patience and effort, but the right strategies can make it a rewarding journey.
Following effective fitness routines at the gym has helped many dieters maximize fat burn and shed unwanted pounds.
Holly Lane shared three strategies that helped her lose weight and establish an effective gym routine.
She noted that maintaining the right mindset and choosing exercises that optimise results while minimising unnecessary calorie burn, were key to her success.
“Challenge yourself and push your limits, go to muscle failure with weights, or run for an extra two minutes,” she advised fellow dieters.
“All those things your mind is telling you you can’t do, you can.”
Another rule Holly found helpful was focussing on compound exercise at the gym for efficient calorie burn.
“If you’re working on your body with weights, focus on compound movements, these workout multiple muscle groups at a time and more muscle mass means your body will burn more calories in a day naturally,” she explained.
These types of exercise use multiple muscle groups at the same time, like squats, which engage the quadriceps, glutes and calves.
Experts at Physiopedia confirm that the benefits of compound exercise include burning more calories.
The health body notes: “Compound exercises have a much higher net energy expenditure than isolation exercise, so they will burn far more calories.
“If fat loss is important, compound exercise is superior. The more muscle mass, the more calories burnt when resting.”

Lastly, Holly credited a consistent attendance at the gym for her weight loss success.
While regular gym visits are important, overdoing it can lead to burnout and long breaks, so balance is key.
“Be consistent, don’t go to the gym seven times a week and then not go at all for three weeks. Losing weight and toning up needs consistency,” Holly shared.
She added: “Make sure your diet reflects you’re workouts at the gym, there’s no point working out regularly if you’re still eating way over your recommended calorie intake and it’s all unhealthy.”
