Curtis Jones has revealed that he received a message from former manager Jurgen Klopp immediately after making his 100th Premier League appearance on Boxing Day.

Liverpool moved seven points clear in the Premier League table as they came from behind to beat the Foxes 3-1 at Anfield.

Jones started the game but the home crowd were silenced when Jordan Ayew gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute.

However, the Reds hit back through Cody Gakpo before Jones gave them the lead when he prodded home from close range.

Mo Salah wrapped things up and there was a message waiting for Jones when he returned to the dressing room.

In fact Jones was unaware that it was his 100th top flight game for the club until he read the text from his old boss.

‘It was Jurgen!’ smiled Jones in his post-match interview. ‘I just came in then, we had a talk with the team and I just went on the phone.

‘I normally text family and stuff and I saw a text from Klopp, he said ‘congrats on 100 games and here’s to 500 more’ or something like that.’

‘I was like what’s he on about, 100? I’m on more than that! But I just checked the Instagram and 100 games, yeah. Proud, really proud.

‘He’s [Klopp] on Instagram so he gets to see it!’ Curtis added. ‘But that’s what he’s like, he’s still in touch with the whole team.

‘He’s a great man and he’s still loved by us. It was him who set up the team we’ve got now, the foundation was there already and Slot’s just carried it on.’
