President Donald Trump’s presence at Sunday night’s Super Bowl was the reason Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift were kept apart, sources have claimed.
The pair, who typically watch Kansas City Chiefs games together, were reportedly instructed to maintain their distance at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans to avoid potential political controversy.
Sources claimed to the Daily Mail that organisers feared a “PR nightmare” if the two were seated together, given Trump’s history of criticising Swift and Mahomes’s previous engagement with Trump-related social media content.
The Chiefs ultimately lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the match but unlike previous games throughout the season where the duo sat together to support their partners Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, Swift and Mahomes were noticeably separated in different suites.
The fact the pair decided to watch the game from different spots in the crowd sparked rumours among fans they may be in the midst of a spat.
Both women faced challenging moments during the evening, with Swift being booed when shown on the stadium screens and Mahomes coming under for a seemingly ill-timed Super Bowl Instagram post.

“That could have been a PR nightmare if the two were seated together when Taylor was booed,” a source told the Daily Mail.
The source added that “everyone was forewarned that Trump would likely reference Taylor in one way or another and he did.”
Trump’s antagonism towards Swift has been well-documented, with the former president previously posting “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” after she endorsed Kamala Harris’ presidential bid last year.
The tension between Trump and Swift added another layer of complexity to Sunday’s event, where both were in attendance.
Brittany Mahomes sparked fury when she took to Instagram while the Chiefs were losing
“It was in both of their best interests, given Trump’s attendance and his past remarks about Taylor, that the two did not sit next to each other,” the source explained to the Daily Mail.
While Swift endorsed Harris, Mahomes sparked controversy in August 2024 when she liked a Trump social media post outlining 16 of his policies, ranging from immigration to economic matters.
The action prompted significant backlash from liberal social media users, leading Mahomes to respond on Instagram.
“I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood,” she wrote.
Following the Chiefs’ defeat, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to reignite his public row with the Shake It Off singer as he openly mocked Swift’s reception at the game.
“The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift… She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!” Trump wrote.
