Justin Verlander will play for the San Francisco Giants in his 20th MLB season after signing a one-year contract on Tuesday, it has been revealed.

The two-time World Series champion and nine-time All-Star was a free agent after leaving the Houston Astros and has now landed on the west coast.

News of his arrival at San Francisco was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who revealed the pitcher, who turns 42 next month, reached an agreement on Tuesday.

The deal is pending a physical, per the report, and will see Verlander play for the fourth different team of his 20-year career in the big leagues.

There had been some speculation over whether Verlander would end his storied career this winter, but he will step out for another year on the mound.

He made his MLB debut in July 2005 for the Detroit Tigers, playing for the franchise for 12 years and being named the American League MVP in 2011.

He moved on to the Astros in 2017 where he won two World Series titles, before spending a year at the New York Mets and then moving back to Houston.

Away from the baseball field, he is married to model Kate Upton, with the pair first meeting in 2014, getting engaged in 2016 and then tying the knot a year later.

Their first child was born in 2018, and she is regularly pictured in the stands cheering on her husband.
