Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz had to be separated after coming to blows in last Sunday’s game, it has been claimed.

The Philadelphia Inquirer said Thursday that the duo had to be kept apart by Eagles security chief Dom DiSandro – affectionately known as ‘Big Dom’.

The incident was reportedly sparked by Sirianni taking issue with how hard Ertz gave him a high-five at the end of the game and responding by mocking him for only taking one catch.

‘Both of us said ‘congrats’ to each other,’ Sirianni was quoted as saying after the game, while the Inquirer quoted Ertz as simply saying: ‘We just exchanged holiday pleasantries and kept it moving.’

The Inquirer’s ‘Uncovering the Birds’ podcast said Sirianni later apologized to Ertz – a player he once briefly coached at the Eagles – over Zoom.

It is not the first time Sirianni has been involved a controversial incident this season.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni clashed with Zach Ertz last Sunday

Back in October, the Eagles head coach apologized to fans after appearing to respond to taunts to fire him by cupping his ear and shouting back to fans who were sat nearby.

When he apologized, he brought his children with him to the press conference.

The Eagles lead the Commanders at the summit of the AFC East by two wins and can clinch the division with a win over Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

But in a tense game against the Commanders, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts went out in the first quarter with a concussion that will likely see him miss the Cowboys game this weekend.

Ertz and the Commanders, meanwhile, need to win out from here to have any hope of knocking the Eagles off the top of the NFC East.

The Commanders host Atlanta Falcons Sunday before ending the season against Dallas Cowboys.
