The Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour has cancelled its Friday performance at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro due to severe weather warnings for Storm Eowyn.

The show has been rescheduled following the Met Office’s rare red alert for Friday, with forecasts predicting wind speeds of up to 100mph in some parts of Scotland.

The performance was set to be one of three planned shows at the Glasgow venue, but organisers were forced to postpone due to safety concerns as the storm approaches.

Police Scotland has urged people in affected areas to remain indoors during the extreme weather conditions.

A spokesperson for the event said: “Due to the red weather warning in place tomorrow, the Friday evening performance of Strictly Come Dancing The Live Tour will be rescheduled to Sunday evening, 26 January.”

The rescheduled show will open its doors at 5:30pm, with the performance beginning at 6:30pm.

Original tickets will remain valid for the new date.

Organisers have advised that customers unable to attend the rescheduled performance should contact their ticket providers for a refund.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” the spokesperson added.

The tour features seven couples from the hit BBC series performing across the UK.

Among the star-studded lineup are Jamie Borthwick partnered with Michelle Tsiakkas, and Montell Douglas dancing with Kai Widdrington.

Opera singer Wynne Evans is paired with Katya Jones, while Tasha Ghouri performs alongside Aljaž Škorjanec.

While several fans understood the reasons behind the cancellation, plenty on social media expressed frustration at the timing of the announcement.

Some felt the decision could have been made earlier, with one social media user commenting on X: “Could have made this decision five hours ago.”

“Finally,” another responded to the update about the postponement before a third quipped: “Right sorry we need to stop the Strictly tour from coming to Scotland – isnt this the third time its came and weve had severe weather warnings?” (sic)

The announcement came as part of wider disruptions across Scotland due to Storm Eowyn.

The cancellation follows widespread disruption across Scotland, with all train services suspended during the storm period.

Hundreds of schools have been forced to close their doors due to the severe weather conditions.

Health boards across Scotland have also cancelled non-urgent care appointments.

The Met Office’s red weather warning, which is expected to bring the most severe conditions between 10am and 5pm on Friday, has prompted concerns about potential danger to life.

Forecasters have warned of unprecedented gales, with some areas expected to experience wind speeds reaching 100mph.
