Arsenal fans are showing little sympathy for Rodri following reports that he could be out of the rest of the season as they point to a challenge the City man made on Martin Odegaard last year.

Rodri had to be substituted during the first half of Sunday’s thrilling 2-2 draw between Arsenal and City at the Etihad after going down clutching his knee following a tussle for the ball with Thomas Partey.

And he could be ‘ruled out for the remainder of the season’ after reports in Spain emerged that the midfielder suffered a ‘torn cruciate ligament in his right knee.’

According to MARCA, the City midfielder ‘sustained a cruciate ligament tear’ during the game. They claim a ‘more definitive diagnosis’ will be available later on Monday with the midfielder ‘set to undergo tests in Spain’.

Rodri is one of City’s most important players with many believing him to be the best holding midfielder in the world.

The reports, if confirmed, will undoubtedly mean a boost to Arsenal’s title chances and their supporters think it is karma after a challenge he made on their skipper earlier last year.

Rodri left Odegaard in agony with a crunching challenge during Spain’s 3-0 Euro 2024 qualifier victory over Norway at Malaga’s La Rosaleda stadium.

Rodri went in flying as the Norwegian took aim at goal in the area and caught him high with many viewers labelling it a ‘leg breaker’ despite Odegaard ultimately walking away without any serious damage.

And the clip was doing the rounds on social media on Monday following the Rodri news.

‘I have zero empathy for Rodri after this disgusting tackle he made on Martin Odegaard during the title run-in last season while on International duty,’ wrote one Arsenal fan on X. ‘Karma doesn’t miss an address.’

Another posted: ‘Rodri trying to end Odegaard’s career during the international break in the middle of the title race. Yet, they’re calling us dirty without us even doing anything.’

Rodri was seen writhing on the ground in pain before appearing to hold back tears as he limped from the field alongside City’s medical staff on Sunday.

MARCA claim that the Spaniard ‘is currently travelling to Madrid to undergo a new examination to confirm the serious injury. He also plans to visit several specialists to make a decision regarding the operation.’

With the Spaniard in the side, Guardiola’s side have won 74 per cent of their games and lost only 11 per cent.

Without Rodri, City have a 64 per cent winning record and have lost 24 per cent of their games.
