King Charles surprised a royal fan after bumping into them on a walk around the grounds of Dumfries House.
The monarch was seen wishing Alice Ryce a happy birthday and shaking her hand in a clip shared online.
Charles was strolling around Dumfries House – which he acquired in 2007 – when he surprised a shocked Alice with their encounter.
The 75-year-old could be heard saying: “Many congratulations,” before the pair shared a handshake.
Charles’s social media team wrote: “The King gave Alice Ryce “the surprise of her life” when she bumped into him in the grounds of Dumfries House last week, on her 87th birthday.
“Whilst enjoying a visit to the estate, which is open to the public, Alice unexpectedly met His Majesty, who was delighted to share in her special day.
“The King was in Ayrshire to support the work of The King’s Foundation, headquartered at Dumfries House.
“Happy birthday, Alice!”

On Friday, the King visited Dumfries House to listen to “deeply moving” accounts from two men who shared how his charity transformed their lives after they became entangled in violence.
Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, he held discussions with ambassadors and representatives from the King’s Trust.
Members of Police Scotland’s Scottish Violence Reduction Unit (SVRU) – an initiative focused on addressing all forms of violent behaviour – also attended.
