AC Milan have shown an interest in Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin as talks continue for the striker with Newcastle United.

The Italian side want a replacement for Olivier Giroud who has joined LAFC in the MLS and are scouring Europe for alternatives but still need to sell first.

They have also made contact with Bologna for Holland international Joshua Zirkzee who has a £34million clause which kicks in from July 1, but he is a target for Manchester United too.

Everton have been in talks with Newcastle over a £35m deal for Calvert-Lewin and have offered around £30m for Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh.

Brighton have also discussed an offer for Minteh, however, French side Lyon are understood to be willing to pay Newcastle’s asking price of closer to £40m.

Newcastle have been leading the race to sign Calvert-Lewin, with Eddie Howe’s side having held talks with Everton over a £35million transfer

That could cause an issue in talks with Everton who wanted to keep the two deals in tandem.

Everton have offered 27-year old Calvert-Lewin a new deal but he is attracted to a new challenge.

Chelsea showed tentative interest but are now looking at younger options with Lille’s Jonathan David, Jhon Duran of Aston Villa and Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Meier their active targets.

Manchester United are also among Calvert-Lewin’s admirers but would be reluctant to meet Everton’s asking price.

They are already baulking at the Goodison club’s valuation of Jarrad Branthwaite but are expected to make an improved offer for the defender this week.

Their opening bid of £38m plus £5m in add ons was dismissed by Everton last week.

Milan have also enquired about Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee (pictured) who could be available for around £35million

Calvert-Lewin, 27, joined Everton in August 2016 from Sheffield United and has gone on to return 68 goals in 247 appearances across all competitions for the Merseyside outfit.

He has been capped 11 times for England and was called up to Gareth Southgate’s side for the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 campaign.
