Zara Tindall has revealed why Australia’s Gold Coast has become a cherished “home from home” for her family’s annual January getaway.
The tradition of starting each year in Queensland has become firmly established for Zara and her husband Mike Tindall.
The royal equestrian explained: “We have always loved Australia and it is like a home from home for us”.
Zara highlighted the Gold Coast’s appeal as a perfect escape from British winter weather.

“Coming out of the cold winter and into the warm heat, and the incredible water temperatures,” she explained as key attractions.
The region’s diverse offerings have made it an ideal destination for the couple.
Zara said: “The Gold Coast is just a great place to be – it’s got a bit of everything, from beaches to horses and everything else in between.”
“We have been coming to Queensland for so long now it has become a tradition for the start of the year,” she added, highlighting the Magic Millions carnival’s blend of beach life and equestrian events as the perfect combination.

During the event, Zara Tindall took to the iconic Surfers Paradise Beach for a thrilling horse race alongside fellow ambassadors.
The exhibition gallop featured Prince Harry’s polo-playing friend Nacho Figueras and his wife Delfina Blaquier.
Thousands of spectators gathered to watch the impressive display along the famous Gold Coast shoreline.
Mike Tindall praised the riders’ expertise from his vantage point on the sidelines, saying: “They are effortless and expert, and it is incredible watching them ride. Believe me, the best place for me is up close on the sideline cheering them on!”

He has embraced the social side of the Magic Millions carnival, taking on judging duties at a karaoke event during the Magic Millions Gold evening race meeting.
“Mike was a judge and even had a sing himself – he does love a karaoke opportunity,” Zara said with amusement.
The former rugby star knows his limits when it comes to equestrian activities.
“Being smart about leaving things to the experts is where I excel,” Mike admitted.
