Reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines is a desire for lots of women – correctly applying makeup can achieve this.

A makeup artist has taken to YouTube and shared techniques for women to appear more youthful.

A damp beauty sponger is an excellent option as it creates a makeup artist-level finish. But it only produces this with the correct application.

Applying concealer around the eyes creates a lifted appearance GETTY

Gabi said: “For mature skin, a damp beauty sponge works really well because it helps press the foundation into the skin and the fine lines. It is the easiest and the cheapest tool you can buy.

“If you are new to using a sponge, a quick tip is to run it under water. Squeeze it open and close quite a few times. This makes it expand and soften up quite a bit so then it is ready to work its magic.”

Once the sponge has doubled in size, squeeze out any extra water before applying.

It is going to infuse the foundation with moisture. Women can spray a hydrating beauty mist on the sponge if their skin is dry.

For the eyes, the best tool to use is your finger. Gabi said: “The warmth of your finger and the patting motion do an incredible job of building up coverage.

“Try to be modest with the amount of concealer that you use under the eyes. Less is definitely more. As you get older, less concealer under the eyes is better.”

After applying, correct any darkness that may still be visible with a cotton bud by gently removing some of the excess product that has bunched up.

A setting spray can help keep your skin and makeup looking fresh during the day.
