Hair struggles can reflect a host of environmental factors, with poor diet and stress frequently topping the list.

When a person reaches their forties, however, hormonal changes occurring deeper within the body play a significant role in the quality and length of hair.

In a recent YouTube clip, beauty expert Nikol Johnson shared her comprehensive approach to maintaining healthy hair after age 45.

Paying careful attention to every aspect of hair care, from supplements to specific drying techniques, may be the secret to having healthy and thick looks, according to the content creator.

She revealed that her detailed hair care routine helps address hormonal changes and their side effects, both internally and topically.

“I really work hard to give my hair the best chance,” Johnson explained to her viewers. “I do everything possible to make sure that I have the best-looking hair ever.”

The backbone of Johnson’s hair care regimen is Nutrafol, a physician-formulated supplement designed to improve hair growth.

The supplement specifically targets various root causes of hair thinning, including hormonal imbalances, stress, lifestyle factors, metabolism and nutritional gaps.

Johnson emphasised the importance of patience and consistency with the treatment, noting: “I really saw a difference when I hit the four-month mark and the six months, but you have to be consistent.”

She stressed the importance of taking supplements alongside nutritious meals to provide hair with essential building blocks.

“I do take these with healthy meals like avocado, good fats, fish, things like that,” she noted. “It’s important.”

Elsewhere in the video, the hair care enthusiast stressed the importance of proper scalp cleansing.

“You’re not going to have healthy hair if you do not cleanse your scalp,” she shared. “don’t know how much more I can emphasise that,” she stated, before drawing a comparison to skin care routines.

“It’s almost like putting your make-up on, with SPF and never taking it off, and then expecting beautiful skin,” she explained.

Without proper cleansing, hair will suffer from build-up of dead skin, sebum, and sweat, Nikol noted.

She also recommended using a microtowel for hair drying, noting: “This is the only thing I will use. I will not use a towel because it does break your hair.”
