An ugly brawl broke out on during a local cricket match in Victoria on Saturday, with several players involved in the violent incident.

Video taken during the A Grade match between the Traralgon Rovers and the Gormandale Tigers at Duncan Cameron Memorial Park shows the melee unfold.

A Rovers batter brushed past a Tigers bowler on his way for a quick single when there was an apparent exchange of words.

Seconds later the pair confronted each other, with the bowler attempting to headbutt the batter.

The incident sparked players to run in, with the bowler attacking the retreating batter again with punches as a Tigers teammate wrestled him to the turf.

Players left the field shortly afterwards with the match delayed by thirty minutes. 

The Gormandale Cricket Club released a statement on Sunday morning addressing the ugly scenes.

‘As a club we want to emphasize that there is no place for suck incidents in cricket,’ the statement read.

‘Our sport has always been and should always be a safe and inclusive environment for everyone who participates in the game.

‘We acknowledge that this is a sensitive issue for many involved, and out of respect for those affected we will not be making further comments at this time.

‘We kindly remind the community that there are real people involved who are still processing what occurred.

‘We ask for kindness as our volunteers work diligently to support everyone affected.’
