Remember Monday have been announced as this year’s Eurovision representatives for the United Kingdom ahead of May’s extravaganza in Basel, Switzerland.

The three-part girl band will take the baton from Olly Alexander, who finished in 18th spot on the leaderboard last year while Switzerland’s Nemo emerged victorious.

The band is made up of three long-time friends: Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steel.

And this isn’t the girls’ first taste of the spotlight either, having first emerged into the public spotlight on the 2019 series of The Voice.

Remember Monday said goodbye to the ITV singing competition at the quarter-final stage but it set the stage for them to move on to bigger things.

In fact, they clearly made such an impression on judge Sir Tom Jones that the group performed as his opening act during his UK tour last year.

As well as Eurovision, they’ve also got a stacked work diary ahead of them for 2025.

Remember Monday are already pencilled in to perform at Latitude Festival in July and the Big Feastival in August.

Discussing their spot at this year’s contest, the band said: “‘What The Hell Just Happened’ is exactly how we’re feeling right now! It’s all very surreal; our friendship goes so far back, and we definitely never imagined that we’d be doing anything like this.

“When you’re a kid and people ask you what you want to be when you grow up, an absolute classic is ‘I wanna be a pop star’, so the fact that we’re getting the chance to live that dream as three best friends is just wild.

“We’re going to be the first girlband to represent for the UK since 1999, which feels like such a crazy honour. We’re going to bring loads of fun, energy and hopefully do something that you won’t have seen before on the Eurovision stage…

“We honestly can’t wait to experience this with all of the other incredible artists from around the world, and hopefully make everyone back at home feel proud! This is really the music World Cup and we’ll do our best to bring it home!”

While their Eurovision spot will propel them to further stardom, the girl band have already built quite the following on social media.

Prior to the announcement on Scott Mills’ BBC Radio 2 show, Remember Monday boasted 530.4k TikTok followers.

They were also followed by 81.4k fans on Instagram, although the number will undoubtedly rise ahead of May’s event.

Mills was actually the first disc jockey to give the band their national radio play.

On his show back in November, Mills played their song Famous for listeners for the very first time.

This time around, the band will be performing What the Hell Just Happened? for Europe’s audience.

News of the song’s spot at this year’s ceremony leaked online prior to being played on Radio 2 on Friday morning – and it’s safe to say it’s created quite the debate.

Some fans were excited by the track, including one X user who typed: “I love it. It’s giving me Queen vibes. I think the staging for this is going to be fun! And they can sing!”

“This is a certified bop!” a second echoed as they waded into the discussion.

However, others weren’t so sure, including a third who typed: “Vocally, this is really great and very impressive. I love the layered harmonies and if they sound this good live, that’s a great point in our favour.

“Structurally, I don’t think I like it. The song is all over the place and doesn’t sit in one part long enough for me to enjoy it.”

Meanwhile, a fourth was downright against the entry: “0 points, terrible.”

And a fifth agreed: “Well that’s not gonna win. I’ve listened to it twice and already forgotten about it. No shade to the girls singing it, it’s just background music.” (sic)
