‘Alligator vs Crocodile’ might sound like the title of the latest Hollywood blockbuster.
But it became a reality in Florida’s Everglades National Park last week, where a crocodile and an alligator were seen battling on a sidewalk.
Incredible footage shows the two reptiles snapping, biting, and hissing at each other outside the Shark Valley Observation Tower.
Taylor Bonachea, who filmed the encounter, said the pair appeared to be fighting over a basking spot.
And it was the crocodile who emerged as the victor at the end of the hard-fought battle.
‘The alligator goes into the water and leaves the immediate vicinity in defeat, and the croc gets her nice sunny spot to bask in the sun,’ Ms Bonachea told Storyful.
The incredible video has garnered huge interest across social media.
Taking to X, one user wrote: ‘When an unstoppable force meets an immovable object,’ while another joked: ‘The fight was about whether they would see each other later or in a while.’

AccuWeather reposted the video on X, and several users replied in amazement.
‘Jeepers! Steer clear,’ one nervous viewer wrote.
Another added: ‘Croc definitely looks more like a predator.’
And one quipped: ‘Pound for pound the American crocodile is just tougher.
‘They’re more aggressive and have a stronger bite force.
‘This was pretty a pretty tame confrontation.’
South Florida is the only place in the world where you can find both alligators and crocodiles in the wild.
‘The American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) lives in several places within the Americas, including Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and south Florida,’ the United States Geological Survey (USGS) explained.

‘The American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) is also found in south Florida, among other places.’
While the two animals might look similar, there’s actually a surprisingly easy was to tell them apart.
‘Alligators have a more U-shaped snout while crocodiles have a more pointed or V-shaped one,’ USGS explained.
‘In addition, alligators are black, while crocodiles are usually a lighter grayish brown.’
