It’s one of the biggest broadband providers in the UK.

But it appears that Virgin Media is experiencing an outage this morning.

According to DownDetector, the issues started at around 10:30am, and are affecting customers across the UK.

So far, more than 9,600 problems have been logged on DownDetector.

Of those who reported problems, 72 per cent said they were struggling with landline internet, while 18 per cent were experiencing a total blackout.

The remaining 11 per cent said the problem was with Virgin Media’s website.

A Virgin Media spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We’re aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues with their services.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to fix this as a priority.’

It’s one of the biggest broadband providers in the UK. But it appears that Virgin Media is experiencing an outage this morning

Following small numbers of reports yesterday evening the problems began for most customers at 10:30 am, peaking at over 9,000 outage reports on Down Detector

While users have reported some issues over the last few days, there was a huge surge of complaints on Monday morning.

Many customers said that the issue was affecting their internet access in general, but others said that only specific services were affected.

In particular, a number of Virgin Media customers complained that the issue appeared to primarily affect Microsoft Services.

Customers reported being unable to access work tools such as Microsoft Teams or Office 365 or access Xbox Live online gaming.

Several disgruntled customers have flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss today’s outage.

‘Is Virgin Media internet down/being problematic for anyone else this morning? East London area,’ one user tweeted.

Another added: ‘The audacity for @virginmedia to charge some of the prices they do when their WiFi is so glitchy, all the time.’

And one joked: ‘Oh look, Virgin Media is on fire again. Must be the weekly outage.’

On X, formerly Twitter, Virgin Media customers across the UK reported issues with their Virgin Media internet connection

Another commenter joked that the service disruption ‘must be the weekly outage’

With the outage coming on a Monday morning, the issues proved particularly disruptive to those trying to work remotely

With many still working from home on a Monday, these issues have come at a particularly frustrating time for many Virgin Media customers.

On X, one commenter wrote: ‘VPN Connection down that I use to remote into work but WiFi at home working normally.

‘Everyone in the business with Virgin Media is unable to connect to the works VPN.’

While Virgin Media’s X account is replying to customers on other issues, it is yet to comment on the reason behind today’s outage.

Adding to customers’ frustrations is the fact that this comes less than 24 hours after the last service interruption.

Yesterday afternoon, commenters flocked to X to complain that they were unable to access certain gaming services such as Xbox Live or servers for the popular game Destiny 2.

In a post on X at the time, Virgin Media wrote: ‘We’re aware some customers are experiencing difficulty accessing some gaming services via Virgin Media broadband.’

The company added: ‘Our network teams are currently investigating the issue.’

One customer complained that their Virgin Media wifi was not working despite a ‘£25 price increase’, calling the service ‘unacceptable’

One frustrated customer asked anyone who knew a better internet provider to ‘let them know’

However, no further update was provided to clarify the exact cause of the problem.

Following these repeated problems, some commenters of social media have even threatened to find a new internet provider.

One customer wrote: ‘My lord, @virginmedia has to be the worst internet provider in the UK. £39 a month for something that never works if anyone has any better internet providers, please let me know.’

Another added: ‘@virginmedia broadband down despite a £25 price increase pm! Restarted the router and booster and it is still not working properly. Unacceptable @Ofcom’.

While one furious commenter wrote: ‘Virgin Media will crumble, worst broadband in the country’.
