• Police allegedly found 10 bags of cocaine in Sydney hotel room
  • Andy Alashooty, 35, charged with supplying a prohibited drug
  • Also charged with knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime
  • Employed by North Sydney Bears as NSW Cup assistant coach

Rugby league coach Andy Alashooty will appear in court later this month after 10 bags of cocaine were allegedly found in his Sydney hotel room when it was searched by police earlier this week.

It comes after police responded to reports of an alleged drug transaction at a licensed venue on Pyrmont St in the inner-city just after 3am on Monday.

Officers spoke to a man 35, at the scene before conducting a search of his hotel room, according to a statement from NSW Police.

Once inside, police allegedly located 10 bags believed to contain cocaine as well as $3400 in cash.

Alashooty, from Bonnyrigg Heights, was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station.

‘He was charged with supply prohibited drug (more than indictable and less than commercial quantity), and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime,’ a NSW Police spokesperson said.

‘He was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 30 October 2024.’

It is understood Alashooty is employed by the North Sydney Bears as an assistant coach of their NSW Cup squad – but does not work for an NRL club.
