“Omid Scobie clearly has nothing new to say”, he said.

“His attack on Kate is really gratuitous but that is Meghan speaking. She is a wonderful woman and doing a terrific job.

“He is looking for headlines but he is an incorrigible rascal who is getting away with it.”

It comes after an insider claimed Scobie’s attack on Kate will “wind Prince William up”.

They told the Mail: “He’s immensely proud of what his wife has achieved.

“The princess has been the driving force behind a great deal of their work, particularly when it comes to bettering mental health.”

Harry and Meghan are said in the book to be “in a good place”.

Scobie spoke out on more personal matters ahead of the book’s release, claiming his mental health has been impacted as a result of online trolls.

“I’ve really struggled with it, to be honest,” he said. “I definitely felt at times like I wanted to just disappear.”

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the extracts from Scobie’s book.
