Tesco has rolled out a major update to Clubcard Prices, potentially helping customers save on their weekly grocery bill.

The UK’s largest supermarket chain has started a trial that provides personalised discounts tailored to each customer’s shopping behavior.

The new feature offers additional savings on top of the thousands of existing Clubcard Prices already available to members each week.

Customers chosen for the trial get fresh personalised offers every Wednesday via the Tesco app. Each offer remains valid for seven days, with customers able to purchase items multiple times during this period.

The “Your Clubcard Prices” update has been rolled out to selected shoppers but not UK-wide.

Discounts are automatically added to customers’ Clubcard accounts, so they just need to scan or tap their card at checkout to get the savings.

Tesco Clubcard holders can already save up to £385 a year through the loyalty scheme’s regular discounts and offersPA

Tesco hasn’t revealed how many customers are taking part in the trial or how long it will last.

A Tesco spokesperson said the company was “constantly looking for ways to make Clubcard work harder for our customers”.

They said: “We are currently offering Your Clubcard Prices to a trial group of our Clubcard members, giving them offers on products they regularly buy at Tesco, in addition to the thousands of Clubcard Prices available to all Clubcard members each week.”

The personalised discounts are only valid in larger Tesco stores, excluding Express locations, Whoosh services, and online shopping at tesco.com. The trial also excludes stores in the Isle of Man.

Consumer expert Martyn James noted that personalised discounts are becoming increasingly common among retailers.

He said: “It’s a good thing in the sense that your regular purchases are more likely to get discounted.”

However, James warned of potential drawbacks to the system such as exposure to more items that may not have been on a customers shopping list.

He said: “But the downside is by targeting taste and preference purchases, supermarkets may encourage you to buy more things that are bad for you.”

The move follows similar personalised discount schemes from other retailers, with Lidl Plus and Sainsbury’s Nectar Card offering comparable targeted deals.

Customers can join the Clubcard scheme by downloading the Tesco app or signing up on the Clubcard website, with membership open to those aged 18 and over.
