The high street has undergone major changes in the last few years, firstly due to the Covid pandemic and secondly, the cost of living crisis.

A shift in consumer habits – plus crippling business rates – has led to stores closing all over the UK. However, some retailers are embarking on ambitious new store openings in 2024.

Home Bargains, Domino’s Pizza, Hobbycraft and Smyths Toys Superstores are all launching new stores on the high street.

Home Bargains

Variety store chain Home Bargains will be welcomed into The Pompey Centre in Portsmouth.

The store is set to open very soon, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, so Home Bargains fans have just over a week to go until the exciting new launch.

Job advertisements for positions at the new store have been posted on various recruitment websites, including team members and shop assistants.

Domino’s Pizza

A takeaway lover’s dream, Domino’s Pizza is set to open a new store in Maltby, South Yorkshire.

Pizza fans in the area only need to wait a few days until the launch, which will take place on Monday, February 12, 2024. The store will be located at 77 High Street, Maltby, S66 7BL.

The store will be open seven days a week between 11am and 11pm.

The opening will provide several new jobs to local people and is currently recruiting for roles, including shift managers, pizza-makers and delivery drivers. Vacancies include flexible working shifts to fit around existing schedules.

Area Manager Danny Unwin said: “We’re excited to come to Maltby, to deliver the nation’s favourite pizza. We are passionate about enhancing our new community with employment opportunities, where people from Maltby can grow and develop their careers.

“Over 90 per cent of Domino’s store managers started in-store or as a delivery driver, so whether you’re looking for a few extra hours or a completely new career path, there are roles to suit everyone.

“The store is celebrating with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 12 at 11am, where the Mayor, our charity partners, local community members and customers are invited to meet the new store team and of course, try some freshly prepared Domino’s pizza.”

The Domino’s boss told customers that the pizza giant will be giving out 100 free personal pizzas to the first 100 customers in the store.

For the first two weeks of being open, it will also offer any size pizza for £6.99 collection. They will also be offering personal size pizzas for just £1, with proceeds going to Domino’s charity partner Teenage Cancer Trust.

“We are really looking forward to opening the doors to our Dunstable store and sharing our passion for arts and crafts with the local community.

“Over the last few years, we have seen more people than ever take up crafting and we want to encourage locals to come down to the new store and share their crafting experience,” Area manager Naren Bhowal told Luton Today.
