An effective skin care regime is essential for maintaining a beautiful complexion, no matter what your age. On the other hand, being careless with your skin care can lead to a lacklustre look.
According to one plastic surgeon, women can keep their skin looking vibrant by avoiding three bad habits. Speaking on TikTok, the renowned Dr Youn – also known as America’s Holistic Plastic Surgeon – told skin care enthusiasts: “Don’t make these mistakes with your skin.”
Dr Youn stressed the importance of post-shower moisturising, telling women not to delay when it comes to carrying out this essential skin care task.
He said: “Don’t wait longer than three minutes after getting out of the shower to moisturise.

“By applying your moisturiser quickly, you can lock in that hydration.”
The skin experts at CeraVe explained: “Moisturisers are cream or gel-textured skincare products which contain a blend of humectants and emollients.
“Humectants are skincare ingredients which draw in moisture from the air and surface layers of skin and retain it – hyaluronic acid and glycerin are a couple of widely known examples. Emollients also help to trap moisture in skin, and aid in softening skin texture through rich hydration.”
Explaining the many benefits of moisturiser, the experts stated: “While its hydrating function is obvious, moisturisers can also brighten skin tone, refine texture and reduce the appearance of ageing signs like fine lines and wrinkles.”
This can be said for both daytime and night-time face moisturisers and body moisturisers – all of which play an important role in an effective skin care regime.
Revealing a second skin care mistake, Dr Youn advised against using makeup wipes to remove makeup.
While they appear to do the job quickly and easily, makeup wipes are more effective at “smearing the makeup all over your face” than actually cleaning it off.
To protect the skin, those who wear makeup should get into the habit of using a micellar water or makeup-removing cleansing oil. Dr Youn said: “These are the perfect first step for a double cleanse.”

The expert also advised against using skin-brightening creams containing hydroquinone for more than six months.
He explained that using the skin-lightening agent – which tackles hyperpigmentation – for too long can “create resistance and rebound hyperpigmentation”.
City Skin Clinic explained: “Rebound hyperpigmentation is a post-treatment phenomenon where the skin undergoes a sudden increase in pigmentation.”
In other skin care news, an expert named the “powerhouse” product she swears by for “multiple beauty benefits”.
