As we age, our skin takes on a more mature appearance. This means that over time, your bright, smooth, plump complexion will suffer from dullness, wrinkles and sagging.
While this is inevitable, it is possible to stave off and reduce the effects of ageing with the right know-how. GB News spoke exclusively to two experts about how women can achieve “the best skin of their life” with at-home habits.
Plastic surgeon at Keller Plastic Surgery Dr Gregory S Keller stressed the importance of a skin-boosting regime, claiming that cleansing is the cornerstone of good skin care.
Dr Keller told women to “cleanse regularly with the right products”. He said: “Cleansing is the foundation of any skin care routine. It removes impurities and prepares the skin for other treatments.”

As for how often this essential task should be completed, cleansing twice a day “helps maintain a fresh, clean canvas”.
Dr Keller recommends using DefenAge’s 1-Step Multi-Cleanse, as it “not only cleanses the skin but also gently exfoliates and hydrates”.
However, there are many excellent products out there with active ingredients that give the skin a boost.
When selecting skin care products, you can’t go wrong with ones that include “powerful anti-ageing ingredients”.
According to a second plastic surgeon, a specific skin care strategy will “prevent premature ageing” and even give you a natural “facelift”.
After cleansing, skin care enthusiasts should use a moisturiser to “hydrate and protect their skin barrier”, resulting in “plump, youthful-looking skin”.
Dr Keller advised choosing a product that “locks in moisture while delivering age-defying results”.
For skin that stands the test of time, women should also ensure they are applying sunscreen every day – not just when it’s sunny. This is essential for both skin health and appearance.
“Sun protection is non-negotiable,” Dr Keller warned. “UV rays are one of the primary causes of premature ageing, so applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is critical.
“Whether it’s sunny or cloudy, sunscreen should be a staple in every skin care routine to protect against sun damage and maintain youthful skin.”
Biochemist and certified cosmetologist-aesthetician at OnSkin, Valerie Aparovich, also shared how women can achieve their best skin ever, focusing on the “often-overlooked delicate areas around the eyes”.
Valerie said: “The fine skin around the eyes is much more sensitive to lifestyle and environmental stressors than the rest of the face, as well as being more prone to dryness. It is usually the first to show signs of ageing.”
Indeed, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons defined the “common” signs of ageing around the eyes as fine lines and wrinkles, crow’s feet, undereye bags, dark circles, sagging skin, dryness, age spots and puffiness.
Valerie said: “I always recommend investing in a dedicated high-quality eye cream or serum from a reputable brand as they are formulated with the delicacy of this specific skin area in mind, containing appropriate concentrations of active ingredients and a higher percentage of moisturising components.
“They should also have a more lightweight texture with smaller ingredient molecules for better penetration and absorption.

“The around-the-eye requires regular and ample moisturising to protect its barrier, slow the formation of expression lines and diminish age-related wrinkles.
“Moisturising ingredients like hyaluronic acid and collagen quickly penetrate the skin, helping replenish and retain its hydration balance.
“Fatty acid-rich ceramides prevent transepidermal water loss and enhance the skin’s hydrolipid barrier, leaving it soft and nourished.”
As for how women can address fine lines and wrinkles under the eyes, the skin guru advised: “Retinol, peptides and bakuchiol are the best active ingredients.
“They stimulate collagen and elastin production, helping achieve a thicker, firmer skin texture and reduce wrinkling and creasing.”
Valerie also recommended investing in an eye cream that contains caffeine. She explained that this has a vasoconstrictive effect, which “helps reduce the intensity of discolouration by narrowing underlying capillaries”. It can also “de-puff” the under-eye area.
Other ingredients to look out for are vitamin C and niacinamide, which provide “brightening” properties, and mint which has a “cooling” effect.
In a recent deep dive, GB News revealed the ancient skin care technique praised by doctors for its lasting improvements in skin tone.
