A savage thug who bit off his housemate’s ear “added insult to injury” by throwing the dismembered body part at his victim.
Dean Ellis, 36, clashed with his victim after they complained that the 36-year-old was being too loud after coming back in the early hours of the morning from a night of drinking.
Ellis subsequently ended up sinking his teeth into the victim’s ear, before chucking it at him in a moment captured in shocking CCTV footage.
The victim said he has been left permanently disfigured after medics were unable to reattach it.

He said that he is now anxious to be around his children as he is afraid they will be scared of him. The victim added that he now wears his hood up when he is in public.
The 36-year-old admitted wounding without intent at Newcastle Crown Court and was jailed for 23 months suspended for two years.
Judge Sarah Mallet said: “You bit his ear, severing the top of it.
“The severed ear ended up on the floor and to add insult to injury you threw it at him. It was not possible to reattach the ear and he was left with a permanent disfigurement.”

When Ellis returned home on April 15, 2023, he got into a confrontation with his housemate when he was told to keep it down. A third man tried to step in to separate the pair but to no avail.
The 36-year-old later calmed down after the attack, even giving his victim some ice and cloth to put the ear in at the instructions of a 999 call handler.
Ellis and the victim had both been living in supported accommodation in Blyth.
In an impact statement, the victim said: “This has completely knocked my confidence. Before this incident, I was an outgoing person but I now find myself not going out as much as I normally would.

“When I do go out I always have my hood up. I don’t want people to see my ear and judge me on my appearance.”
Mallet said that attack had a “significant” impact on the victim, and gave Ellis a suspended prison sentence and ordered him to pay £500 in compensation.
Ellis, who has six previous convictions, must also complete 166 hours of unpaid work left outstanding from a previous sentence.
