Sam Thompson has broken his silence on his reported split from Zara McDermott, revealing he has endured a “tough month” following their break-up.

The former Made in Chelsea star opened up about the end of his five-year relationship on the latest episode of his Staying Relevant podcast with Pete Wicks.

When asked by Wicks “What’s been going on?” regarding his relationship status, Thompson candidly responded: “It was tough. It’s been a tough month. A real tough month.”

The revelation marks Thompson’s first public comments since news of the couple’s separation emerged last month.

Wicks admitted he had disappeared when his friend needed him most during the difficult period.

“I went off radar for a couple of weeks, I put my phone in a drawer and disappeared,” Wicks revealed on the podcast.

Thompson expressed his frustration at being unable to reach his best friend, saying: “I’ve been going through some stuff Pete and I called you 15 times.”

The podcast team had desperately tried to contact Wicks during the Christmas period.

“I had calls from our PR, our team, everyone saying you had non-stop spoken to them over the Christmas period and said please can you call him,” Wicks admitted.

Wicks acknowledged his absence during Thompson’s difficult period, saying: “I did feel bad, I went off radar and I didn’t realise you were effectively on the edge over Christmas.”

Thompson playfully responded about his friend’s whereabouts: “Pete was in a really nice retreat somewhere in the world, having a great time, sitting in a hot tub being really wholesome.”

Wicks reflected on how he eventually reconnected with Thompson, noting: “So within 30 seconds after he’d gone through his stuff we just moved on and he started laughing, sometimes what you need is someone not to enable your depression.”

Thompson had described his Christmas as being “like being in a Christmas tomb,” according to Wicks.

The former couple began dating in 2019 after he messaged her on Instagram and endured a public and messy cheating scandal during the early stages of their relationship.

The couple had been together for five years before their recent split, with Thompson describing McDermott as his “soulmate” in a birthday message just weeks before their separation.

Hours before the podcast release, McDermott appeared to confirm she had moved out of their shared home.

The TV personality shared glimpses of her new living arrangement on TikTok, where she was seen with the former couple’s ragdoll cats, Albus and Cedric.

Sources have suggested the pair had been “delaying the inevitable” as they had “drifted apart” due to work commitments.
