RentCafe, a platform that lets people pay their landlords, is down across the US.

Thousands of Americans have been blocked from paying rent on the first of the month due to the outage plaguing the app and website.

Users in California, New York, Texas and Colorado have reported issues, along with other states across the nation.

While the exact number of renters impacted is unknow, RentCafe reported that it receives over 80 million visits annually.

Many Americans are experiencing issues with a rent-paying app on the day when most landlords collect

Renters flocked to Reddit on Tuesday to share news of the issue and see if others are experiencing the same problems.

The initial post, shared around 2:45pm ET, reads: ‘Is it down for anyone else or just me? I know a lot of apartment buildings use it in Kalamazoo.’

The thread has since been populated with comments from residents in Georgia, Arizona, Ohio and other states, where residents are also unable to pay their rent.

‘Out in Texas I’ve been trying to pay first months rent since this morning but the app and site are still down,’ a Redditor shared.

‘Best of luck to y’all out there going through the same thing all day, error code 500 id similar to Rentcafe’s servers telling us ‘it’s not you it’s me’. As far as to what is wrong with the server on their end and how long it will take is another issue.’

Some renters were told by landlords that their payments are not considered late until October 5, so they still have time to pay – even though the platform is down.

However, one user shared that they spoke with their apartment manger who said RentCafe ‘should be fixed tomorrow.’

The platform lets users set up one-time payments for rent, allowing for auto-payments as well.

RentCafe also helps people find apartments, contact property leasing offices and  schedule tours.
