• Teacher and husband killed in motorbike crash
  • Sandra Schuptar was teacher at Mt Ommaney Special School

A beloved teacher and her husband have died in a horror motorbike crash.

Sandra Schuptar, 65, and her husband Peter, 63, were riding on a Honda Goldwing motorcycle when they collided with a Nissan Patrol at an intersection in Logan, south west of Brisbane, at about 7.25pm on Sunday.

Ms Schuptar was a much-loved teacher at the nearby Mt Ommaney Special School.

In a statement, the school said their community was left ‘heartbroken beyond belief’.

Mount Ommaney Special School deputy principal Katie Bartholomaeus paid tribute to the pair.

‘They have a way of making everybody feel comfortable, everybody feeling like they are special and worthy of their time,’ she told The Courier Mail.

‘They are so generous with their time and they’re caring, they’re so compassionate, they’re very humble people but they give everything to others.’

A parent at the school was bereft at the ‘devastating news’.

‘Sandra has been the most incredible support for our family over many years and I can’t even being to imagine how we will start the new year without her beaming smile walking down the veranda,’ they wrote on social media.

‘She was an incredible gift to our community and will be so deeply missed.’

Mr and Ms Schuptar were prominent figures in the local Jewish community, running a prayer group and organising trips to Israel.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the pair were ‘initially treated for serious injuries, but both declared deceased at the scene’.

‘The driver of the Nissan, a 21-year-old Carbrook man, was not physically injured,’ he added.

Police called on any witnesses or those with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
