Queen Mary of Denmark has cancelled scheduled engagements after falling ill with an undisclosed illness.
The Australian-born royal was due to attend the Danish Heart Association event “Together for the Heart” in Copenhagen on Wednesday.
She was also expected at a Mary Foundation event at the University of Copenhagen on Friday.
The royal’s absence comes shortly after she appeared in good health during a trip to Finland with King Frederik earlier this month.

A statement from the Danish Royal House’s Communications Department issued on Monday explained the situation: “Her Majesty the Queen, like many others right now, has become ill, and therefore unfortunately cannot participate in the Heart Association’s award ceremony.”
The Palace did not specify the nature of Queen Mary’s illness, only noting that it was preventing her from fulfilling her scheduled duties.
The cancellations affect multiple events that had been planned for this week.
Queen Mary took to the Royal Family’s official Instagram account to express her gratitude to well-wishers.

“Thank you for your thoughtfulness,” she wrote alongside images of a get-well-soon card and flowers sent by twins Alma and Ellen.
The twins had been scheduled to meet the Queen at the Heart Association event.
“What a lovely surprise to receive this bouquet and drawings, even though illness prevented me from participating,” she continued.

Earlier this month, Queen Mary appeared well during a trip to Finland with King Frederik.
The royal couple shared a selfie in the snow, with Mary wearing a blue beanie and jacket.
