If you’re looking to put your house on the market, there are some simple things you can do to boost your property’s value.
According to two property experts, a fresh lick of paint could be a great way to entice buyers and increase what they’re willing to pay for your place.
Designer and DIY enthusiast Liz Lovery (@lizlovery on TikTok) took to the sharing platform with some “easy and affordable DIYs proven to increase your home’s value”.
Along with her real estate agent husband, Ryan Fisher, she recommended a strategic paint job – just make sure your colour choice isn’t too outlandish.

Ryan claimed that doing a repaint is something his clients have done to “make more money when selling”.
Liz said: “It not only gives it a fresh look but tidying up your [skirting] boards and trim also makes your house look cleaner and more well-maintained.”
The price of a repaint will depend on how much painting you need to do and how much of it you do yourself versus how much outside help you need.
As for what kind of colour palette to go for, real estate expert Ryan advised going for something “light and neutral”.
While you may be tempted to go for something vibrant because of its wow factor and likelihood of turning heads, it may not be the wisest idea.
“Bright, bold colours can scare off potential buyers,” the real estate expert warned.
Indeed, it’s important that the prospective new owner can see themselves living in the house and this is much easier achieved when it’s a relatively blank canvas.
The same can be said for the power of decluttering. Removing your random bits and bobs from countertops and sofas can allow house viewers to imagine their own things there – rather than yours.

Another way to increase your home’s value, according to the experts, is to update the floors in the living areas, as well as “high traffic” areas around the house.
Ryan warned: “There’s nothing worse than walking to a house with dirty carpets and stained floors.”
While visual appeal is key, the importance of smell must not be overlooked when trying to shift your property.
A property expert shared the scents that will help you speed up selling your home by creating a “warm, inviting atmosphere”.
