Prince William made a light-hearted joke about wanting red hair in a subtle reference to Prince Harry during his visit to Sporting Khalsa FC in the West Midlands on Tuesday.

The Prince of Wales, 42, was in high spirits as he completed a walkabout at the Aspray Arena and met with hundreds of excited children on the field, giving high-fives and sharing cuddles with pupils from Fibbersley Park Primary Academy in Willenhall.

During his walkabout, William spotted a woman with vibrant red hair in the crowd.

“Your hair!” he exclaimed. “It’s fantastic!”

The prince then made a light-hearted joke about his own appearance, saying: “I wish I had hair like that! You look amazing. I’ve lost the chance.”

The red-haired gene runs deep in William’s family, with his brother Prince Harry famously sporting the bright colour.

Harry has passed this trait to his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

William attended the event in his role as patron of the Football Association, supporting a referee training course.

The initiative is part of the FA’s Reflective and Representative campaign, which aims to recruit 1,000 people from Black, Asian and Mixed Heritage backgrounds into refereeing.

During the visit, William helped referee a game between children.

He also chatted with professional referee Lieutenant Levi Gray about women’s involvement in football, particularly following the Lioness’ performance in the 2023 FIFA World Cup.

In his memoir Spare, Harry previously made comments about William’s hair, calling his brother’s baldness “alarming” and “more advanced than mine.”

William was recently crowned the world’s sexiest bald man for two years in a row, beating stars like Dwayne Johnson and Stanley Tucci.

The prince has changed his appearance over the years, opting for a buzzcut in 2018 after seeking advice from his wife’s hairdresser, and recently, he has delighted royal fans by growing a beard.

“We had a selfie. He loved my hair,” she said. “He was lovely, bless him. He’s made my day.”

The father-of-three proved he can be just as warm-hearted as his wife Kate, who is often referred to as the ‘Children’s Princess’.

From inspiring laughter to sharing hugs, William seemed in his element as he greeted the young crowd.
