An NS&I saver with £100 in Premium Bonds is now £100,000 richer, and they only bought the winning bond in December 2023.
The winning bond number is 561WH531024 and this prize winner is from Leeds.
NS&I has shared some details about the March 2023 prize winners, which marks the first month since the prize fund rate was cut.
This month, the first £1million jackpot winner was from West Sussex.
They bought the winning bond, 513VQ281226, in September 2022.
The second winner is from Hampshire And Isle Of Wight, and they bought the winning bond 441BK932039 in February 2021.
NS&I announced in January that the Premium Bonds prize fund rate would be cut from 4.65 per cent to 4.40 per cent from March 2024.
However, the odds of winning have not changed – remaining at 21,000 to one for any £1 Bond number.
In March 2023, the Premium Bonds prize fund rate was 3.30 per cent and the odds were 24,000 to one.
Andrew Westhead, NS&I Retail Director, said: “These changes reflect our requirement to strike a balance between the interests of our savers, taxpayers and the stability of the broader financial services sector.
“In a dynamic savings market, it’s important that our rates are set at an appropriate position against those of our competitors as we work towards meeting our annual Net Financing target.
“After these changes, the Premium Bonds draw in March is expected to pay out over 5.7 million tax-free prizes totalling more than £444million to savers across the UK.”
