Poundland has confirmed plans to close all of its 800 stores for two days towards the end of the year.

The discount retailer has announced it will shut down its sites on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Furthermore, Poundland stores will also be closed on New Year’s Day as part of the festive season.

Despite these store closures, the brand has pledged to remain open on Christmas Eve for any customers looking to do any last-minute shopping.

This represents the fifth consecutive year members of Poundland staff have been given extra days over the Christmas holidays.

Customers are being urged to be aware of their local store’s opening days and times to avoid being disappointed.

Notably, Poundland has not confirmed if it will be shutting down stores earlier on Christmas Eve so normal opening hours will likely be in place.

Over the holiday season, the budget retailer is aiming to hire more than 1,000 temporary members of staff.

These will be seasonal roles with the majority running until Christmas Eve.

However, some roles will be extended until early January to help the business.

To help employees over the holidays, Poundland is doubling its staff discount on weekends.

Furthermore, every worker will also get a £25 voucher to spend in the 800 stores nationwide.

Anyone that interested in this concession can find more information through the retailer’s career website.

Simon Wells, the people director at Poundland, outlined why the business is looking to offer more support to employees during the festive season.

He explained: “We have brilliant colleagues here at Poundland & Dealz who work incredibly hard throughout the year, bringing our brands to life every day and supporting our customers.

“But we know they all particularly shine at Christmas, bringing the magic to our stores that our customers know and love. We’re delighted to be able to support them with a well-earned rest once the festive season is over.”

Other supermarket stores have also confirmed their Christmas season opening hours with Aldi and Waitrose not being open during Boxing Day.

Furthermore, Wiko and John Lewis have announced they will not be open on the day after Christmas.
