Penny Lancaster, 53, and her husband Rod Stewart, 79, put on a united front and a public display of affection during a charity event which was designed to celebrate the incredible bond between humans and their pets.

Over the last couple of months, the couple has been plagued with rumours their 17-year marriage was in trouble after they were at a “stalemate” when discussing whether to sell their LA home.

However, Stewart was quick to shutdown the rumours and posted a lengthy statement on his Instagram account which read: “Despite erroneous articles in the Daily Mail and other tabloids that followed suit. We wanted to put the record straight.

“There is absolutely no rift between Penny and I and no disagreement over where we should reside, in fact, it’s the opposite. We moved permanently back to our beloved Britain a year ago but are fortunate to also have homes in different countries, which we love to visit.

“Originally, we did think it made sense to sell our house in LA, but having spent a wonderful time there this summer with friends and family during my Vegas residency we realised that it makes sense to keep our house there.

“Penny and I could not be more in love with each other after 27 glorious years. Please trust me on this… there’s no disharmony in our marriage. Rod ‘a very lucky man’ Stewart.”

The couple have since show they are more loved up than ever, with Lancaster serenading Stewart during their recent charity gala where she donned a figure-hugging floor-length dress adorned with an autumnal floral print.

As she belted out Greece’s Hopelessly Devoted To You on Friday, her husband lovingly watched on, hugging one another and sharing a karaoke duet afterwards.

The charity – named Hopelessly Devoted – was created by Mark Aldridge to help a small charity called Celia Hammond Animal Trust who are in desperate financial need.

Lancaster and Stewart have showcased their love for pets after showing off their Labradoodle whilst supporting the cause close to their hearts – providing essential low-cost veterinary services to sick and injured pets and also rescuing unwanted or abandoned stray cats in the capital and the South East.

The couple recently shared their personal story about Lilly, writing: “Lilly, our rescue dog from Battersea, came into our lives just before lockdown. She shows us her gratitude every day with her love, protection and loyalty.

“She doesn’t leave our sides and is the best guard dog, warning us of anyone approaching ten minutes before we know they’re even close. Lilly’s unconditional love is like no other. We may have rescued her, but we are so blessed to have found her.”

The charity penned: “For this special campaign, Mark has teamed up with some amazing celebrity friends who’ve each written heartfelt stories about why they love their animals.” (sic)

Whilst the couple prove naysayers wrong about their relationship, Stewart is gearing up for another round of concerts despite recently being diagnosed with strep through and COVID-19.

He revealed on his Instagram alongside a show poster: “It is with unbridled enthusiasm and excitement that I announce the continuation of my European tour of Poland and Italy with more dates to come.

“In the divided world we live in, it’s always music that brings us together. So forget your worries and join me and my band for a fun-filled, glorious evening of song and dance, all in the name of rock ‘n’ roll. See ya there!! Rod Stewart.” (sic)
