Anthony Richardson has been cleared to start for the Indianapolis Colts this weekend after missing the last two games with a hip issue.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed Richardson’s return at quarterback in his Friday press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Miami Dolphins.

Richardson was hurt from a helmet-to-helmet hit with Minkah Fitzpatrick in the first quarter of the Colts’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in September. He sustained a hip pointer in the collision.

Joe Flacco, 39, came in and replaced Richardson in his absence, with the Colts losing to the Jaguars before beating Tennessee Titans last weekend.

Speaking at the time he was hurt, Richardson played down fears he would miss significant time.

‘Feeling a little sore. I think I’m going to be good. Just a little sore,’ he said in the locker room. ‘I tried to go back out there, but I just couldn’t accelerate how I wanted to.

‘So, (Shane) Steichen was like trying not to mess up the team right now, so I was like, “I’ll just sit”.

‘I was looking forward to going back out there with my squad. I wanted to contribute to the W. I think I did a little bit, but I wanted to be out there the whole time. But shoutout to my guys for getting the W today.’

His return is a huge relief for the Colts, who drafted Richardson in 2023 only for the quarterback to play four games before shoulder surgery ruined his rookie year.
