NBA G-League player Terry Roberts survived a gunshot wound to his upper chest on Sunday morning in Philadelphia, and now the former University of Georgia guard is expected to recover.
The 23-year-old who plays for the Long Island Nets caught a stray bullet when a gunfight broke out at a Philadelphia bar, according to local police.
‘Terry Roberts was the victim of a crime on Sunday morning in Philadelphia, and we are in the process of gathering more information about the incident,’ the G-League team said in a statement. ‘He is currently in stable condition, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Our thoughts are with him and family at this time. Due to the ongoing law enforcement investigation, we will have no further comment.’
Roberts was discovered on the sidewalk at around 12:45am on Sunday and rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition, according to police.
Since then, he has been taken off a ventilator and has been speaking with his parents.

‘He’s healing,’ Roberts’ mother told Philadelphia’s ABC 7. ‘He’s doing well. He is in a state of shock. This is a traumatic situation that’s happened.’
Police are continuing to investigate the shooting, but do not believe that Roberts was involved in the dispute.
‘Preliminary investigations suggest that multiple offenders believed to have exited a Silver Nissan Altima indiscriminately fired shots toward patrons outside the lounge before fleeing the scene,’ Philadelphia police said in a statement.
‘In response, an armed private security guard arriving at the venue returned fire, though it remains uncertain whether any of the offenders were struck.’

A native of North Amityville on Long Island’s south shore, Roberts went on to play high school basketball at Believe Prep in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
From there he attended Florida SouthWestern State and Bradley before transferring to Georgia in 2022 and averaging 13.2 points a game for the 16-16 Bulldogs.
He went undrafted in 2023, but has since appeared in 19 games for Long Island, a G-League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets.
In 18.6 minutes a game, Roberts is averaging 7.2 points as well as nearly three assists and rebounds.
