Bev Turner has described “Britain’s strictest headteacher” Katharine Birbalsingh’s statement as “music to our ears.”

This comes after a Muslim student who took legal action against her London school over its ban on “prayer rituals” has lost a High Court challenge.

The pupil at Michaela Community School claimed the school’s policy on prayer was discriminatory and “uniquely” affects her faith due to its ritualised nature.

In a statement after the school won, the headteacher said: ““A school should be free to do what is right for the pupils it serves.

“The court’s decision is therefore a victory for all schools. Schools should not be forced by one child and her mother to change its approach simply because they have decided they don’t like something at the school.”
