GB News presenter Anne Diamond has waded in on the search for missing teen Jay Slater, and she feels the police may think the 19-year-old is still out there.

The police have ramped up their efforts in Tenerife to find the missing teenager after appeals were made for expert volunteers to help.

The 19-year-old, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared following an attempt to walk back to his accommodation on June 17.

Speaking on GB News, Anne said the fact the police have only ramped up their efforts in recent days shows they “might know something we don’t”.

Her co-host, Stephen Dixon, commented: “I didn’t realise there wasn’t even something akin to a family liaison officer.

“Not to dismiss what the Spanish police are doing, but the family should be kept informed.

“Otherwise, they’re just left hanging in limbo.”

Anne commented: “I can’t help wondering what you’re meant to think.

“The fact that the police are still searching, you would thought they must have come to the assumption that he must be dead.

“It’s just that they haven’t found his body yet. Wouldn’t they give up searching? They’re still spending money on searching.

“I wonder if that suggests that they know something we don’t, that there is a possibility that he’s still alive there somehow. I don’t know.

“I think they’re probably just looking for a body now just to bring some closure to it, which is an awful thing to say.”

The search in the village of Masca, near to his last-known location, is being co-ordinated to take in a steep rocky area, including ravines, trails and paths.

Slater attended the NRG music festival on the island with two friends before his disappearance and his last known location was the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island – which was about an 11-hour walk from his accommodation.

He had reportedly been driven to an Airbnb property in Masca.

According to reports, media were told in a press conference on Saturday that two men who were reported to have rented the Airbnb are “not relevant” to the case.

On Friday, Slater’s friend Brad Hargreaves told ITV’s This morning he had been on a video call with him shortly before his disappearance.

He said: “He was on the phone walking down a road and he’d gone over a little bit – not a big drop – but a tiny little drop and he was going down, and he said ‘I’ll ring ya back, I’ll ring ya back’ because I think someone else was ringing him.”

He confirmed he could see his friend’s feet “sliding” down the hill and could hear he was walking on gravel.
